Eric Powder- Presidential Parang.

Eric powder has been a part of the Trinidad and Tobago entertainment circuit for many years. coming from Tobago Eric has won a number of accolades and in the early 1990s he ventured into the calypso arena with two songs "We run out of parts" and "Powder on pan" that took him into the semi finals of the National Calypso Monarch Competition in Skinner Park San Fernando.singing out of the Spectakula Tent. The folowing year he was back at Spectakular winning the hearts of fans. Over the years he sang a wide range of songs. These songs ranged from Chutney to calypsos done in some of the old masters style.

In Tobago Eric is an integral part of the entertainment and cultural industry having acted in movies like the "Turn of the Tide" and also in the television series. He has proven to be one of Tobago's prolific writers and his humourist roles are priceless. One can find Eric playing Santa Claus at local Christmas events or judging cultural events. His voice is a familiar one on the Tobago airwaves as he has been a regular host on Radio Tambrin for the past ten years.

This year (2008) Eric Christmas offering "Presidential Parang" a  song dedicated to the new President of the United States of America Barack Obama has taken the country by storm. It is a regular part in all the local radio stations rotations.Barack,Barack,Barack is on everyones lips.  From information that I have received the song is very popular in New York Washington and Florida where it is receiving tremendous airplay on the radio stations.

rixon-powder1.jpgPresidential Parang is produced by Rixon Powder(Eric's son) and the sound engineering was done by Mauri Hall the son of a famous Trinbagonian Tony Hall. The entire production was done in Tobago.

This song shows the musical depth of Eric powder and I am sure that for the coming Christmas Season everyone in T&T and by extension the Caribbean and those who are part of the Caribbean diaspora will be sing Barack, Barack, Barack while partying and enjoying the festive season in a manner that only we caribbean people know how. Copies are available at leading CD outlets in T&T and also in the U.S.A.

PRESIDENTIAL PARANG

Verse 1:
Ah want a Visa for Christmas
Got to go America,
Tell the Embassy don’t make fuss
Celebrate with Obama.
Done call mi friends and them already
To organise a Parang Band,
From Hawaii to Miami
We serenading, that’s the plan.
From gate to gate, plate after plate
We moving from state to state,
V.P. Biden say to have no fear
Parang start in the State of Delaware.
Chorus:
Bring your Marac, shake your “Shack Shack”
Barack (Three times)
Proud to be black
Barack (Three times)
No more war in Iraq.
Barack (Three times)
Change we need- Yes we can
Barack (Three times)
Presidential Parang.

Verse 2:
His father- African from Kenya
Mother- White American,
Race for him, never a factor
He sees all human beings as one.
A graduate of Harvard Law School
His eyes set on his profession,
At Sidley Austin in Chicago
He met young Michelle Robinson.
That was his mate, she gave him faith,
To succeed and elevate
First Lady Michelle, Malia-Ann, Sasha,
God bless you and all America.
(Chorus)

Verse 3:
Energy Policy and Health care
Tax cuts and new jobs you will find,
“Send all of our kids to College
No child shall be left behind.”
These are the words of our new leader
Commitment to Americans,
Since the big Wall Street disaster
Unveil his Economic Plans.
In the Debates, he showed his weight,
Made Mc Kain so desperate
Vicious forces promote a smear campaign
In the end, Barack dignity shall reign.
(Chorus)

(Additional chorus to end)
Barack (Three times)
Parang in the White House
We eating black cake and souse.
Barack (Three times)
Change we can believe in
Bring Mc Kain and Palin.
Barack (Three times)
Let’s jump and celebrate
Put piece ah ham in mi plate.
Barack (Three times)
Democrats/Republicans
Come and join the parang.
Barack (Three times)
Let us bond together
We have to save America.
Barack (Three times)
