Elephant Man granted Bail.

DANCEHALL artiste Elephant Man was on Wednesday offered bail in the sum of $400,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on sex charges.

This is the artiste’s first appearance in court since his arrest last Monday following a reported incident involving a 31-year-old woman at his Hillcrest Avenue home in St Andrew last month.

The 36-year-old artiste, whose real name is Oniel Bryan, is charged with rape and sexual assault.

Bryan, who is being represented by his attorney Linda Wright, is expected to return to court on May 21 for a preliminary enquiry into the allegations.

On Wednesday, the energetic entertainer sported a black outfit and his trademark red and orange hairdo. He seemed upbeat while he stood in the holding area inside the courtroom where his case was called up. He also managed a smile while in the prisoner’s dock.

But the courtroom was cleared for the bail hearing before Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.

The artiste, who is known for songs such as Pon De River, Gully Creeper and Sweep, is also before the court on allegations that he stole electricity.

Meanwhile, entertainer Kid Kurupt, whose real name is Jevaughn Rodney, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to marijuana charges. He was slapped with fines of $100 and $3,000 respectively for possession of and smoking ganja.

He was caught smoking after committing a traffic violation while making his way to deliver clothes to Elephant Man in lock-up.
